The 28-year-old pop star headlined the TikTok Tailgate ahead of the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. I felt a mini panic attack seeing the crowd until I read that the audience was filled with 7,500 vaccinated health care workers.

Near the end of the set, she broke into one of her earliest hits, 2009’s “Party in the USA”, which name-dropped Britney Spears.

The pop star was hinting at the ongoing #FreeBritney movement. The statement comes at a time when the documentary Reframing Britney Spears casts doubts on her conservatorship. The New York Times film unveils her current state as more of a prison than for the betterment of her mental health.

The documentary dispels many myths about the pop icon, such as the commonly belief that she has no agency over her artistry. But she’s actually a boss. And it also shows that her downfall was based on a misogynist narrative that painted her as an object after her breakup with Justin Timberlake.

The fact that Miley is a Britney stan makes me stan her so much more.
