Officer Jarrott pulled over Omar Felix Cueva on February 4th on the I-10 outside Las Cruces. Jarrott told Cueva he was being stopped because his window tint was too dark. Cueva was initially cooperative, but the stop turned sideways when the drug dealer unloaded several rounds at point-blank range into the officer before feeling the scene.

Police eventually tracked down Cueva on the highway, after a 40 mile pursuit. The drug dealer used a pit maneuver to spin his truck and had a full-fledged gun battle with the cops, where he met his fate.

Las Cruces Police Department officer Adrian De La Garza was injured in the shootout but survived after treatment at a hospital. Police are still investigating the fatal incident as Cueva had an extensive violent criminal record and are trying to figure out how he was able to get his hands on an assault weapon.
