Vice principal in New Jersey tosses beer at diners after transphobic-Kar...
A vice principal from New Jersey threw his drink on innocent patrons after his wife went on a transphobic rant about a transgender woman using the women’s bathroom. The man has been identified as Michael Smurro, a vice principal of Neptune Middle School in Monmouth County. Smurro wrote in an email, “I apologize to the person I threw my beer at and wish I hadn’t done so. I apologize to anyone I offended.”
In the video, Michael Smurro’s wife, Lisa Smurro, is seen talking to a waitress about a transgender woman using the woman’s bathroom. Patrons at the restaurant begin to film her transphobic rant. She becomes aware of the audience rolling the tapes, but continues her spiel. One of the patrons chimes in saying that she can take her hate elsewhere. And that’s when her husband stepped in to defend his wife. The Vice Principal takes the contents of his drink and tosses it at the diners, encouraging them to meet him outside, then walks off.
Lisa Smurro said she and her husband were having a private conversation when someone began filming them. Lisa says, “We didn’t bother anyone. This all began because somebody was in a bathroom that they shouldn’t have been in. ”
New Jersey law permits people to use public restrooms that correspond to their gender identity.
The Neptune school district posted a statement on its website, writing, “we’ll respond to this incident in a manner that is appropriate and relative to the seriousness of the situation.”
