The Strange Unsolved Disappearance of Gabby Petito

Gabby Petito is an aspiring travel blogger who set out with her fiancée Brian Laundrie to capture their road trip or “van life” on social media. But behind the perfectly constructed photographs and the magnetic smiles, lies some very dark secrets and fascinating details that make this story truly unique.

New York native Petito moved into Laundrie family’s home in North Port, Florida. They had been dating since March 2019 and got engaged just over a year later in July 2020. Petito’s mother believed the couple had called off their engagement ahead of the trip. But later on in the body cam footage, Petito states that they are engaged.

Petito and Brian Laundrie set out from New York on a cross-country road trip in a camper van that belonged to Petito on July 2nd. On August 12, Petito and Laundrie got into a physical fight in Utah. The incident took place at a vegan restaurant. A worker from that exact restaurant was fatally shot along her wife just 6 days after this incident had occurred. Police say there is no connection, but it is an eerie coincidence, nonetheless.

During the traffic stop, Petito told the officer she had been arguing with Laundrie and that she was struggling with her mental health. According to the police report, Laundrie said Petito struck him at the restaurant when she thought he was going to drive away in their van following an argument. The officers were responding to a possible domestic violence report but classified the encounter as a mental health crisis. Although, I can’t help but wonder if Laundrie pulled the same stunt later on and actually managed to get away this time, he could have left his soon to be wife to succumb to the elements.

After that incident, two posts appeared on Petito’s Instagram, one on August 19th and another on August 25th, but a number of her followers believe that she didn’t actually write those posts herself, as they had no location tags, unlike prior ones she’d submitted on the trip. Also, one of the posts appeared to be old as it was Halloween themed and in civilization rather than following the theme of their trip, which was isolated parks. In the photo, her hair was also a lighter colour like it had recently been dyed. Here is a picture of her hair in a post before, which shows a much darker colour.

Petito’s mother said that Petito last texted her about losing cell service in Yosemite on August 30, but said she didn’t believe that message was from her daughter. She last talked to her daughter on FaceTime on August 24th. The day before that suspicious Halloween-themed photo was taken.

On September 1st, Brian Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida with her van but without Petito. The van, may I add, looked very clean. Laundrie also lawyered up, upon his arrival. Petito’s family reported her missing to New York authorities 10 days later.

The Strange Unsolved Disappearance of Gabby PetitoBrian Laundrie has refused to speak to authorities about Petito’s disappearance. Police have named him as a “person of interest” in the case. And as of writing this video, Laundrie went missing and is nowhere to be found.

A creepy detail is that a Spotify account they both shared had recent additions added to it. The songs were added before Laundrie’s arrival in Florida, meaning he created the playlist after Petito disappeared. The songs all follow a general theme of heartache and death. One song by Matt Berry called “The Badger’s Wake” is about the death and subsequent decomposition of a badger.
